Gain real-world nonprofit board experience. Build your leadership skills. Make a lasting impact.

What is Boardroom Bobcats?

Boardroom Bobcats is an experiential leadership program that places undergraduate and graduate students on nonprofit boards in the Bozeman community as non-voting members for a full academic year. The program has been a fixture in the Bozeman community since it was first launched in August 2016.

The mission of Boardroom Bobcats is to develop students to become catalysts for change who seek life-long commitments to community involvement and board service, creating value and lasting impact for nonprofit organizations and the greater community. Through this program, students gain firsthand experience in nonprofit governance, leadership, and community impact, while receiving mentorship and professional development from experienced board members, and staff from the Office of Student Engagement and the Leadership Institute.

What to Expect

Board Placement & Participation

Students are placed on nonprofit boards based on their skills and interests. As non-voting board members, students participate in meetings, contribute ideas, and gain insight into nonprofit decision-making.  Students often choose to diver deeper and participate in committees and collaborate on projects, but this is not a requirement of the program.

Monthly Leadership Trainings

In addition to attending board meetings, students receive leadership training through the MSU Leadership Institute and the Office of Student Engagement. These workshops focus on nonprofit board work and provide skills in strategic decision-making, nonprofit leadership, and effective communication, among others.

Building Community Through Service

Boardroom Bobcats is more than a leadership program, it’s a chance to connect, collaborate, and serve. Students build meaningful relationships with nonprofit leaders, board members, and peers while contributing to the Bozeman community. Through mentorship and shared experiences, they develop skills and connections that create lasting impact.
