Substance Use Training, Education, and Prevention (STEP), is a 2-hour course from Student Wellness that focuses mainly on alcohol and cannabis. The seminar covers:

  • How our bodies process alcohol.
  • Effects of alcohol and cannabis on physical/mental health and academic success.
  • MT laws and MSU policies.
  • Harm reduction and “party smart” strategies.
  • What to do in an emergency.

Open Enrollment

For students who use alcohol or cannabis, STEP is a great way to learn some basics and how to use them more safely. It’s also useful for officers in fraternities, sororities, and student organizations for learning ways to host social events with alcohol with safety in mind. If you want to attend to learn more, the seminar is free of charge. Select the Registration button below and choose “STEP - Open Enrollment."

Conduct Referrals

Students may also be referred to STEP for conduct violations. For these students there is a non-refundable, $25 charge. Students must pay the fee and attend the entire seminar to fulfill the requirements of their sanction. If students miss or cancel the course, they must re-register and pay for an alternative session. Select the Registration button below and choose “STEP for Conduct".

Regardless of why students take STEP, our aim is to make it fun, interactive and informative.
