Office of Disability Services & Campus Civil Rights Expansion: Swingle Annex
Description of Request
Submitted By: Kyleen Breslin
The Office of Disability Services (ODS) requests additional staff space to accommodate recent growth and enhance student support services. ODS plays a vital role in ensuring equitable access for students with disabilities, offering accommodations, assistive technologies, mentorship, and other essential services. The existing space in Romney Hall, while centrally located and student-facing, no longer meets the needs of the expanded team. The design team from Planning, Design & Construction explored options to modify the current suite but determined that the renovation would be cost-prohibitive and fail to meet accessibility and confidentiality standards. To address these limitations, staff recommended allocating Suite 209 in Swingle Annex to ODS for use as a satellite office. This suite includes four offices that would accommodate two ODS staff members, one new Civil Rights Investigator under Campus Civil Rights (CCR), and one flexible office for shared use or future staffing. Additionally, Room 202 in Swingle Annex would be reassigned as a flex or future office space. This arrangement supports operational alignment between ODS and CCR, both housed under the same division, and maintains accessibility through an ADA-accessible entry currently being installed by Facilities Services.
