Missoula is high up in Montana's Northern Rockies where three rivers meet, with seven wilderness areas around it. Missoula is a place where people come to find great outdoor adventures. With 60,000 acres of wilderness, you can kayak, hike, bike, ski, fish, raft and tube. Missoula is a rich art and culture center, with a number of great museums.

"If I have learned anything from my professors here on the Missoula campus it would be first and foremost that nursing does not come from skills alone, but from being a compassionate and open minded human being. I am a traditional BSN student about to enter my last year in Missoula. Transitioning to a new community was challenging, but this group of professors and peers made me feel at home with love and support, truly encompassing what it means to be a Bobcat Nurse. Missoula's two hospitals offer an array of opportunities to help you grow as a knowledgeable nurse. I found not only mentors within the MSU faculty, but also the nurses in town who helped me learn with hands-on application and easy dialogue, all of whom I could feel were truly invested in my learning. Missoula is surrounded by gorgeous mountains full of outdoor recreating. I have truly enjoyed my time here and am excited to continue on this journey to become a graduated Bobcat Nurse."

It is very difficult to survive without an automobile given the variety of clinical sites. The Mountain Line Public Bus System operates from 6:00am to 10:00pm, which isn't satisfactory for shift work. Due to cold weather bicycles are not an option in Winter. The UM bus systems and Mountain Line are both free of charge. Automobiles are required for Community Health Nursing and community-based experiences in other courses. Parking permits on campus are available for approximately $124.50 per half-year and can be purchased from the UM Police Department, (406) 243-6132. You must purchase your permit in-person and identify yourself as an MSU College of Nursing Student. |

Average rent runs from $950.00 and up in the Missoula area. It is recommended that you arrive in Missoula early and be prepared to pay first, last, and a damage deposit for rentals. Bulletin boards at the University Center on the University of Montana campus have ads for roommates. University of Montana Residence halls on campus may have space available if you apply early. Option 1) MSU-CON students on the Missoula campus can access ongoingtelehealthcounseling services through MSU Bozeman Counseling and Psychological Services. Students wishing to access ongoing telehealth services through CPS will pay the MSU student health fee by calling (406) 994-2311.
Option 2) MSU CON students can pay the U of M health fee to access mental health counseling services through their Student Health Services. The fee also covers medical, dental, and health coaching services. There is no charge for the first counseling visit, but additional sessions are $20/session. |
