The MSU Local Government Center (LGC) welcomes you to this professional development training for elected officials in Montana municipal governments. This program offers a variety of timely workshops designed to support you in your important roles within your town or city through:

  • Sessions that enhance the capacity of local government officials to serve effectively, professionally, and efficiently in municipal government
  • Workshops to help mayors and council members learn about their roles and responsibilities as elected officials and provide pertinent information about emerging issues and opportunities of importance to local governance
  • Sessions offered by experts from Montana State University, the Montana Municipal Interlocal Authority, the Montana League of Cities and Towns, practicing experts in municipal government, and knowledgeable trainers from the public sector who work directly with local government
  • Networking opportunities with your colleagues in an atmosphere of professional growth and support

The program is held in conjunction with the Montana Municipal Institute for Clerks, Treasurers and Finance Officers and the 2026 Jim Tillotson Service Program for City Attorneys allowing for interaction between city attorneys and officials of both the executive and legislative branches of local government.Participants will have the opportunity to attend combined sessions with the clerks and treasurers to learn about topics that have an impact on everyone's duties.
