Music Mondays

September 15th - October 15th

Swing by the Student Commons on Mondays during Hispanic Heritage Month any time between 10 am and 6 pm to enjoy music by Bad Bunny, Willie Colon, Rosalía, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Selena Quintanilla, José José, Ritchie Valens, Aventura, and more. The Student Commons is a physical space and a set of programs to help students find their place, develop theirvoice, and thrive at MSU.

HHM Kickoff Event

September 19th, 4:30 - 8:30 pm, Romney Oval

Come celebrate the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month with the kickoff event! Organized by Fuerza Latinx, MSU's Latino/Hispanic student organization, all are welcome to come enjoy this community celebration featuring food trucks (first 200 meals are free!), performances, activities, and music by DJ Inkieto. Free and open to the public, no registration required.

Book Club: Still Born by Guadalupe Nettel

Thursdays (September 25th, October 2nd, and October 9th) from 5 - 6 pm 

The MSU Student Commons will be hosting a book club on the dates above discussing Still Born, a novel that explores the multifaceted nature of caregiving, encompassing not only parental responsibility but also the care between friends, neighbors, and animals through the intertwined lives of two women. The Student Commons will provide books for participants free of charge.

Film Screening: Dolores

October 7th, 5:30pm, Procrastinator Theatre

Join us for a film screening of the PBS documentary, "Dolores." The film follows Dolores Huerta, an influential activist who fought for racial and labor justice throughout her life and still today. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. 

Women's Center Sack Lunch Seminar

October 8th, 12 - 1 pm, SUB Alumni Legacy Lounge

Join Dr. Rebecca Turk, Director of The Center for Bilingual and Multicultural Education and Director of Accreditation in MSU’s Department of Education for this seminar, Language and Identity: Belonging. This presentation will touch on how language (multilingualism, accents, raciolinguistics, translanguaging, etc.) plays a role in one’s internal and external identity. Through this identity exploration, we will connect concepts of one’s sense of belonging to identity pressures. Audience members will leave with a better understanding of how language and identity are connected as well as reflections of the impact and implications of belonging or not belonging.

Volunteer at English Para Todos

English Para Todos is a local organization in Bozeman, Montana, that provides programs and classes for the Spanish-speaking community in Gallatin County. This is an excellent opportunity to volunteer and engage with members of the local Hispanic and Latinx community! Volunteer roles range from conversation practice to classroom support, behind the scenes support, and many other ways to get involved and support English learners in the community.

Ofrenda for Dia de los Muertos

The Day of the Dead, el Día de los Muertos, is a time to honor and remember those who have departed.  It is believed that at this time of year the border between the spirit world and the real world dissolves.  The souls of the dead can return to join their living family members in dancing, eating, drinking and music.
